Charlotte/Shelburne/Hinesburg

Shelburne and Charlotte are two communities that sit south of Burlington along the shores of Lake Champlain. Route 7 runs through these towns. Both towns offer abundant recreation and entertainment opportunities from museums and shopping, to hiking and watersports.

Hinesburg is also south of Burlington and is closer to the Green Mountains. Route 116 runs through Hinesburg, which runs from South Burlington, down to Middlebury. 

Charlotte

Charlotte is situated in the Champlain Valley and consists of rolling hills, ridges, and its entire western border runs along Lake Champlain. Known for it's farmland, the town has sugarbushes, orchards, dairy farms, berry farms, a winery, market gardens, livestock farms, honey houses and grain production. The popular Mount Philo is located in Charlotte. This short hike takes you to panoramic views of the Champlain Valley, Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. There is a hiking trail and a paved road, so the peak is easily accessed, no matter the means of ascending. 

The town consists of East and West Charlotte. There is a senior center where a variety of events take place, corner stores and a library. Charlotte benefits from a ferry, which runs multiple times a day and takes people and cars over to Essex, NY, making access to the Adirondacks easy. Charlotee is a tight knit community, making it a popular place to live and visit. 

Shelburne

Shelburne is a quaint town, consisting of a bustling little village and a sprawling town. Shelburne is home to Shelburne Farms, an education nonprofit consisting of a farm, flower gardens, walking trails, an inn, restaurant and more! In addition to the well known Shelburne Farms, the town is also home to Shelburne Vineyards and Shelburne Museum. The museum consists of a variety of things to enjoy including historic tours, concerts, learning classes, concerts and during the holidays, there is a lights display.

There is an abundance of outdoor recreation in Shelburne. Shelburne Pond is a 450-acre shallow body of water that allows for fishing. There is a gravel boat ramp which provides access for kayaks and canoes to go out into the pond. Shelburne Bay Park is a popular destination to enjoy hiking and sightseeing, as well as LaPlatt River Nature Park. The town enjoys a designated dog park. The Kwiniaska Golf Club is a semi-private 18-hole golf course in northern Shelburne, and features views of both the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks. 

Residents and visitors can enjoy a variety of things to do in Shelburne town and village including dining at independently owned restaurants, shopping at the general store and antique shops, or visiting some of the many farms and farm stands. Similar to the neighboring town of Charlotte, Shelburne's western border runs along Lake Champlain. The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory is situated in Shelburne.

Hinesburg

Hinesburg is located to the east of both Charlotte and Shelburne, and just 25 minutes to Burlington. Situated close to the Green Mountains, residents can enjoy accessing an abundance of outdoor recreation quickly. Lake Iroquois is located in the heart of Hinesburg and provides opportunity for swimming, picnics, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and boating (please note that this lake does have size limitations for motor boats). 

You don't have to look far for amenities in Hinesburg. The town consists of a local market, gift shops, some restaurants, cafes, hardware store and more. The Cedar Knoll Country Club features a golf course and restaurant. Vermont Route 116 runs through the town, and provides easy access to South Burlington, Williston, Bristol and Middlebury. The town has a large recreation department that hosts a variety of programs and activities. Hinesburg is home to some local farms and gardens.
